The Second Amendment is the one amendment that protects all of the others. Guns are not a problem. Criminals are the problem.
As a husband, father, and avid hunter, I support the right of law-abiding Tennesseans to bear firearms to protect themselves, their families, their property, and enjoy the shooting sports. I will oppose any effort to restrict our Second Amendment freedoms.
I am 100% pro-life. I believe life begins at conception. I support parental notification of minors seeking an abortion. I will vote against any taxpayer funding of Planned Parenthood.
Our Tennessee values must be defended. I am a strong supporter of traditional marriage between one man and one woman.
Big government is the number one problem we face. Government taxes too much, spends too much, and restricts our liberties. As your State Representative, you can count on me to support plans to reduce the size, scope, and cost of government. As an example, I support outsourcing the maintenance of state buildings when this can save tax dollars.
Improving our public schools is something we all support. Better schools start with local control of education. I believe decisions in education should be made by parents, teachers, principals, and local school boards, not bureaucrats in Washington and Nashville.
Our schools are testing our children too much. Kids are being taught to the test. We need less testing, especially standardized testing mandated by bureaucrats. Testing and decision-making are two reasons I strongly oppose Common Core.
Tennessee is known for some of the best highways in the country. Unfortunately, improved fuel economy along with hybrid and electric cars are reducing available funds from the gas tax used to build new roads. I support Speaker Harwell’s plan to use a portion of this year’s state budget surplus to replenish dollars removed from the highway fund during the recession.
Stopping Illegal Immigration
Illegal immigration threatens both our economy and our safety. I will support any proposal to crackdown on illegal immigration. I oppose resettlement of refugees with known terrorist ties in Tennessee.
Standing Up For Farmers
I oppose the EPA’s job-crushing policies that are hurting farmers, landowners, and Tennessee families. Farmers and agri-businesses employ thousands in Tennessee, and they need support from government agencies, not more regulations and red tape. As your State Representative, I will make farmers and agri-businesses a top priority and oppose any effort to place burdensome regulations on Tennessee landowners.
